Is this you?

If I can articulate your goals or needs clearly with precision, better than anyone else,  I have the best solutions for them too.

Audience – solution fit is very important to me.

I have been playing our style of music for the last 28+ years (started at age 11) and been teaching for the last 17+ years. Based on that, my guess is, you found me and want to learn with me because of the following reasons.

So, tell me if I have got them right… IF your needs or goals are within the list below

Learning with me is the right solution for you if…

  • you want to play Indian Raga or film songs on the guitar, the way it is sung, fluently and efficiently (no more hitting and somehow sound)
  • you like the way I play rhythm and chords like in my Unusual Unplugged videos and want to master rhythm and chords, make it fluent and connected
  • you want to slowly be able to find your favorite song notes on your own
  • you want to be able to finally find chords on your own
  • you want to understand music beyond just look and repeat like a parrot. You are smart and want to understand the patterns and structures that make music on guitar work
  • you want to maybe even improvise with raga or chords.
  • maybe you want to play the guitar and sing for yourself, or with your family or friends.
  • you are interested in chord melody and fingerstyle playing
  • maybe you want to inspire your children – what better way than lead by example
  • maybe you have always wanted to practice our style of music, now 25+ ( after Uni) or 35+ or 45+, you are more settled, can manage some time and want to follow your passion and dream of music that you have always carried with you.

Did I get your goals or dreams right?

Obstacles. Music dream Fatal errors.

You may have faced these problems before, preventing you from reaching your goals (we will solve these):

  • Most guitar courses are Generic. Such note hitting methods won’t lead you to your Indian style guitar goals (but they will still take your money and time).
  • you are forced to play and practice music that is unfamiliar to you and you have no interest in. (no sense of direction. no focused learning)
  • Youtube whirlpool – you want to practice using whatever limited time is available to you. you start with a video hoping to get some progress, get sucked into the uncurated crowd of videos, lost time, no improvement to show (I curate your experience. First level curated Free videos for subscribers, then next step detailed and structured growth experience for students and members + you have access to the curator himself.)
  • Tabs, numbers, notes – remember and repeat mindlessly with no understanding. You are kept stuck at the lowest steps of music learning and playing. Years can passby, but the student is still dependent on copy playing  (we don’t have to be parrots like that – we need to advance through learning heirarchies as early as possible)
  • Music teachers who are not good at teaching. Is a music teacher someone who can play or someone who is good at teaching? Most teachers have no learning or teaching experience – it’s a job. They don’t have the training or ability to give you the micro details that will help you to model the best play of a very good player. They can’t compose a syllabus or solution for your individual needs. (you are looking for transformation, you want to move towards your goals, and you need the best information and guidance available for that)
  • Limited practice time wasted from lack of deliberate practice guidance. Between family or work our music practice time is limited which you want to use well using focused consistency training. We know by now that deliberate practice, with measure of consistency, with enough brain squeeze is essential for growth and learning  (Learn how to note down consistency errors and problem points so that even 5 minutes of practice time can be used deliberately with consistency as the measure of sure and constant progress)
  • Even when Indian music is available, the material is not accurate, not detailed, is disjoint, there is no knowledge of technique and methods that lead to fluency. (Details in notes and moves is essential to fluency in playing the kind of Indian music we grew up with)

To reach your specific dreams and goals you need a teacher who is a master at this specific kind of music and instrument.
You need specialized methods, moving you towards what you really want to play, with fluency and emotions, while understanding micro details and modelling that is essential to mastering the craft fast, sure and deep.

Luckily, here you are with a specialist, with a trackrecord of successful learning and teaching in multiple fields. (Testimonials below)

Before we continue…

Who this is not for:

  • Film songs and other copyrighted material are available for free on my youtube channel – you don’t have to buy this resource to get the free videos. Instead if you Want to take the next step and really learn to play, Welcome. Here to help. (film song corrections are welcome and part of the course – use video corrections, group calls and 1-1 calls to get your playing corrected and perfected)
  • The raga part of the resource is based on Carnatic. These ragas are the backbone of our film and Indian style playing even when not mentioned explicitly. Someone who is against raga or carnatic learning should not join. We use the carnatic compositions to master the different ragas and moves used in film songs regardless of application. Want to play Carnatic or Film Songs fluently? The raga based content in this course will help you master that.
  • No Hindustani is directly taught in the resources. Our music traditions are so wide and deep, it’s beyond my resources to master and teach Hindustani at this time.
  • Standard tuned guitar is used. Tabs are all in standard tuning. NO other tuning is explained or use. Take the usual tuned guitar, start playing… Ockham’s razor or the law of parsimony. Work is done on the horizontal plane, while tuning is just a one time vertical offset (see Guitar basics that matter to use tuning to your advantage)
  • This resource is ONLY for people who have already watched my videos and are convinced about my playing and teaching capacity in this field. I don’t try hard sell my services or courses. If you have already benefited from my free tutorials and convinced of my uniqueness in how I can help you, come join me. Let us do this together.

It’s Sad

The deeper problems we need to solve

“Why don’t you make a one size fits all syllabus, sit back and relax?” I have been asked this question many times.

In fact that is the red ocean mass produced style, isn’t it? But…

You are an individual

The usual music teaching business forces the same note exercises on everyone, without asking what your goal is.

The same exercises and inferior teaching is repeated mindlessly without inspection or improvement or good student lesson fit.

Also, you are wondering why  you are playing this generic set of notes which you have no interest or familiarity with, when you know you have to master slides and other indian style specific methods in order to play what you want? Generic won’t lead you to your specific needs.

you parrot?

Then there are apps and other sources that question your intelligence. That brings the wrong kind of dependency and habits to your music learning. 10 years of playing and still a note repeater.

YOu are much beyond repeat and learning parrot mode. You know you don’t have to reduce your music playing satisfaction to waiting till the number is given to you and then hitting the number.

Expertise in teaching?

There are learning heirarchies involved in music understanding, psycho motor skills involved in the playing part, a structure to the advancement to mastery.
Is a music teacher someone good with music or someone who is exceptional in teaching and bringing results to the student?
Well, to be a very good teacher, to know the science of teaching is hard work. It needs effort and commitment. Difficult.

(Dr.Benjamin Blooms heirarchies and his work with virtuosos and childhood learning has helped me much.)

It’s not your fault

The student then believes it is there lack of talent that they are unable to effectively play what is asked of them.

While in fact it is the wrong exercises and resources and methods.

You need to practice the guitar, learning towards what you finally want to play and interested you in music in the first place.

You decide what is best for you

Based on my experience with my students, since you wanted to learn with me, you are someone who can take in information, come to your own conclusions and decide what is best for you, without having to be told just what to do.

So, I will present you with the details. Go through them, join me if the benefits are a right match and we will get to know each other, learn and grow together.

THE all-in-one solution, from THE exact source

If you like my playing and would like to learn what will enable you to play music the way you want, these are the resources for you. We will take care of every detail.

You need a solution that is…

Specialized to Your Indian style playing needs

Not a mass market syllabus

That’s why, since the time I started teaching music formally, around 17 years back,

  • I ask you what your goal is
  • What will make you feel accomplished if you could play it in the next 3 months?

And I specialize with Indian music instead of being generic, take all possible business.

So that, You don’t suffer trying to twist yourself and adjust to a straitjacket generic syllabus. And Your practice is deliberate and results faster.

Agile and modular to serve your individual customized needs

The resources included in this offer is not something bulk and static forced on you regardless of your skill level and needs.
Instead it is agile, allowing just in time learning, relevant learning using combination of modules + you have me.

We need to emphasize this point:

  • you get complete access to all kinds of growing resources that I produce and my students use (growing based on your needs, not static)
  • which you can custom combine based on our specific needs and skill level (modular, allowing you individual need fulfilment)
  • + you have me all through the journey to make sure you are using your time and effort at its best (12 months guidance is included in the packages).

This is a HUGE advantage.

We can’t predict how much time you will take for a particular mastery. But, we can make sure that the time and energy you have is spent the best way possible.

(See use cases and paths given below)

You have me

Remember, as a student you have access to me. I will listen to your needs and build the path for you + tell you exactly what to focus on now, next month and in general.

I have a Btech from IIT Madras. Joined IIT in 1998 – I was a heavy underdog, preparing from a small town in Kerala at that time, with no other resources than guides and previous exam papers – AIR 716 – even I didn’t believe I would make it. Probably I strengthened my self-learning, deduction and generalization, learning by modeling methods with this experience.
I also work with music and related productions – the coming years looks like even more mainstream work as composer and arranger.
Living in the intersection between technology, internet, content and authentic businesses, music audience… I also work as a partner and consultant to a few related projects.

(I have lived in Chennai and Kerala and now in Germany for a few years, where I will be staying for long.)

I give my tutorials for free on youtube. Since I have to make sure that my income work gets done – income for myself and my family – I am able to give personal time only for students and members of my courses.

But, as a student, you have complete access to me for corrections, guidance, mindset, goal setting, problem solving, planning, simplifying, clarity…

At a fraction of One on One Price

Using a mixture of

  • video courses (like textbooks you can use anytime)
  • custom video corrections (you send me your practice videos as possible, to which I give custom guidance – avoids any time zone problems, while making your practice deliberate)
  • + group calls (more often, accountability, direct meeting with me, peer learning)
  • + one on one calls (heavily discounted and added as part of the package), you will have all the advantages of studying with, making use of all possible methods to make your learning effective, to get you results you want, faster, surer, deeper and more economical.

In fact this way you will benefit from me in multiple dimensions, more than just one on one meetings.

This way, even when time is limited for you and me, I can still serve your needs. Because, I don’t want you to reinvent the wheel that I had to…

That leads us to ‘what’s in it for you…’

What is included? What do you get?

Using this resource, you will have complete access to courses that specifically teach you:

Guitar basics that matter

how to begin with music on the guitar, especially Indian music.
Even if you are not a beginner you need to go through this to understand the fretboard logic as I have understood and teach.
How to remember the fretboard for Indian style music.
The string relations for easier phrasing later.
Note or swara to fretboard connection. Best practices with probably a lot of AHA moments for you.
Don’t try playing Indian music without this information

Indian Guitar First steps

basic moves of Indian style playing, explained in detail including checklists to make sure you can on your own know if you are playing the foundational moves correctly.
Solve usual problems fast and forever without frustration and wasting time.
List of points on continued practice to mastery of the basic building blocks essential to playing Indian raga or film songs fluently and efficiently on the guitar as it is sung. Without this module you don’t have the alphabets of Indian music on guitar.

Detailed rhythm chord basics

This is a huge pain point. Knowing the chords will not make a you a good chord player. Without optimized movement your rhythm will always sound imperfect and amateur.
Changing chords involves so many finger level movements, each of which you have to optimize. That is the basis you have to master before you try any further rhythm and chord playing. Which finger groups should move together?
Which are the common fingers that should not move?
How do you prepare your fingers?
What does the thumb have to do with chords?
What does structural mechanics have to do with barre chords?
How to build substeps to move from open chords to barre chords smooth and sure?
Without this module you could be playing a 100 songs and chords, all disjoint and unsatisfying.

Carnatic

Start with the Lambodara Geetham divided into 4 levels – scale level connecting the swaras to the guitar, basic swara slides level, lyrics level absorbing swaras into syllables, the final full slide level. This makes sure that you not only learn the song, but know how Carnatic and raga based songs are built on the guitar, acknowledging both the raga aspects and specifics of the instrument, guitar.
Naturally this is important and useful study for film song playing too – after all the songs which led you to me all have slides, hammer ons and pull offs, playing ragas and raga style moves. Yes?
It’s not enough to perfect your playing. You need to know what you are playing, why, how to build the music… This is often lacking, but not with us.
Move on to more Geethams (Varaveena is second level playing, which when mastered 70%, you can play almost any film song too, confidently)
Krithis, Thillana… The Carnatic or raga section grows with your specific needs, but the existing library is enough to keep even experienced guitarists for at least a few months. There are 100s of ragas we can play – we will prioritize them based on need.

Indian Guitar Skill Growth

Set of exercises showing phrase combinations. You have the basics resources immediately on joining. more work is done through corrections and based on your practice needs and growth

How to find chords for any Raga, Song, Scale

A huge growing library which shows you how I think in chords. 100s of phrases in different ragas, different real life situations, where I go through the notes, identify the patterns and find chords.

Learn the method of finding chords which enabled me to do the kind of chord improvisations like in Unusual Unplugged and other rhythm chord youtube videos.

The process is straightforward – you just get faster and surer with time. It involves enough work, like doing maths. But you have lifetime access… constant progress.

Rhythm mastery, fingerstyle Indian, Sing + rhythm etc.

All these are provided to you based on your progress, specific needs, growth, level etc. You have 6 or 12 months of interaction with me. We will make use of it well.

Group calls, 1-1 calls, video and email corrections

Group calls

  • ask your doubts
  • listen to other students doubts and answers
  • consult with other students and myself
  • get regular accountability
  • 8am PST and 8pm PST – check your time zones.

Video Corrections

  • asynchronous – doesn’t depend on our time zones, record and send whenever you have the time – absolute time freedom
  • very effective since I can see how you are playing and correct your fingers and phrasing and every mistake possible, without either of us having to worry about fixing a time or being online according to a calendar and time zones.
  • this option really works, in my experience. just turn on your mobile phone, record the mistakes and doubts, upload and send me link on email or Skype

1-1 Calls

  • I am slowly phasing this out because of lack of time and also since the other options are effective
  • But, this is useful when we want to have a private one – one conversation, get some focus, accoutability
  • real time questions and answers

The scope of our interactions is for 6 or 12 months based on your choice of option. I maybe available after that, but I wish not to give long term guarantees about time. Instead lifetime access to courses + 12 months to guide you and place you in the right path.

How will you benefit uniquely?

Combining for your unique needs and goals

You could be a beginner or been playing for sometime. Your interest could be in playing fluently like it is sung or in chords and rhythm and its variations.

Based on your skill and goals, you can mix and match the available resources to make custom paths that suit you and will bring you desired outcomes.

Example Paths:

Beginner to guitar, wants film song or carnatic mastery: use Guitar Basics That Matter – Indian Guitar First Steps – Indian Guitar Skill Growth + Lambodara 4 level Clarity

Been playing for sometime, want better rhythm fluency and chord finding ability: use Rhythm Chord Basics – Rhythm Chord Mastery – Raga Chords + Chord Code

Want to master film song playing fluency: Guitar Basics That Matter – Indian Guitar First Steps – Indian Guitar Skill Growth – use video corrections, group calls and 1-1 meetings to improve fluency, remove delays, get clarity on the methods and techniques. (I will still suggest you go through the Carnatic section, since that is the basis even for film songs, even when it is not mentioned explicitly)

Beginner wants to play rhythm and chords fluently: Rhythm Chord Basics – Rhythm Chord mastery – get corrections using video correction or calls

Wants to play Film song, no Carnatic at all: Don’t join at this time. Use Youtube videos for free my channel. In this method, since film songs have ragas and raga moves, a lot of the work is done using raga compositions and raga moves – specifically Carnatic.

Chord melody and fingerpicking: Start with Rhythm chord basics to get the transitions and micro details in place. use Raga chords and chord code for starting to understand chord patterns and melody – chord relations. Specific chord melody exercises will be provided based on your level. Use interactions with me to master.

Sing while playing chords: Start with Rhythm chord basics – chord code for chord patterns – raga chords to start understanding chord phrase relations – use corrections to identify your specific needs of focus, correct systematically.

Well… Your individual need maybe a combination – you have access to me so that I can help you design a path suitable for you need.

Topics are updated. Videos are added. So, in the beginning, start with all the needed basics in each vertical. Keep getting more resources based on your needs. My intention is not to try overwhelm you or fix you in a particular cage of resources – instead to free you up towards your goals.

Almost über level decoupled and highly functional serving your adaptive learning needs… 🙂

You have a choice

You don’t have the time and resources

It wasn’t easy – how I learnt. There aren’t good resources that teach you Indian music and guitar. I learnt from performers who wouldn’t teach, watching and learning, adapting to our style of playing, deciphering and solving, formalizing and structuring so that YOU… won’t have to suffer or spend time money and energy the way I had to or those before us had to.

I also had the advantage of time. I started young. I was lucky to get some connections with the best of guitarists. Luckily I had the ability and time to learn and adapt to our style of playing.

It took a long time –  two decades of my life – to get my skills and knowledge to this stage. A luxury many of us don’t have – time.

You benefit from my life. No doubts, you know exactly what to do, you learn from someone whose playing and teaching skills you are convinced of.

If this is for your child, s/he can use and benefit from my work instead of reinventing the wheel, so that s/he will be the next level musician, better than me.

How much money, time and energy will you spend on music?

Calculate – if you will be learning music, how much will it cost you?
You know the answer: will 100 x mediocre and generic equal one specific and effective?

How, why, micro details – will you find them on your own? You may not know what you don’t know…

I learnt by copying from performers who would n’t teach. I modelled the best game of the best player and I pass it to you – structured and learning friendly.

A lifetime’s work

I started playing when I was 11 (28 years ago). I had a lot of time and space with not much intervention from adults around, no cable TV… no internet.

I have been teaching for the past 17 years.

I spent much money, time and energy learning from different sources, trying out on my own what others couldn’t teach me, formalizing and bringing structure to the playing and teaching methods.

What I have mastered over the last 28 years and what my students benefit from, you have access to, now.

  • Life time access to my lifetime flagship work.
  • Updates forever, no future fees.
  • Playing raga or songs as it is sung + Chord work and any other topics I may add in the future.
  • One on one calls with me included for a limited time. (Separately Calls are at 100usd per class now. But as a member or student you get them included in the package when you choose the right option and join in time.)

Do even 75% of the work and corrections with me and you will be amazed with the progress you make in the next 12 months.

Within the first month, you will know why and how our method, with it’s focus to details and proven learning methods will avoid frustration and overwhelm and instead bring you to the path of a lifelong enjoyable fruitful music learning and playing.

All the knowledge that I have accumulated, formalized, tested, proved… At a fraction of the price I spent in money, time, energy…

Many of my students and members have become my personal friends – some even moving on with me to other projects. It is as if they have known me personally, maybe from watching my videos. Join me if you know me from my videos and you feel it will be good to work with me closer. I would love that.

More Clarity:

Why lifetime access?

Guitar or music learning is not just informational. It involves the body and brain growth; work towards transformation.

We can’t force our mastery into a predefined time frame. We can make the best use of the time, but can’t just load information and expect progress.

I wanted to make sure that you are not under pressure of a subscription, where you have to pay regardless of progress. At the same time, you need to have access to corrections which only an expert can give you.

With a lifetime access, you have access to the material as you want to use. One month off? Ok. Want to look at it next year? Ok. Use it at your pace, while having access to me.

Why fraction of the price?

I want you to have a share of the heaven that I was given, that music gave me.

Music kept me steady through my ups and downs. Through barren spaces and empty times. Brought happiness and change to myself and others. Hoarding it is not going to do any good for anyone.

Why do you give away chargeable information for free on Youtube and courses at discounted prices?

At this time I have identified 3 things important to me in life and therefore work towards:

  • A family that cares for me when I am an old great grandfather (It’s not just about me. It’s about how well I can build to last)
  • Teach, facilitate, enable, inspire those I come in touch with (I used to give my sister play money to teach her as we were children. Learning, teaching, neuroplasticity, growth and mindset… makes me feel my existence)
  • Develop music as a composer, arranger (I used to visualize mixers and studio recording as a child, moving on to real work in my 20s when I had the chance. Music is what I am uniquely good at, even what brought YOU to me)

Tell me. Isn’t it natural that I want to share and see growth and excellence in you? Especially when time is getting limited, we need to find other sustainable and equally effective ways.

Luckily those who come to me through music are people whom I want to be friends with. We care about each other.

What do you mean by custom paths?

Your needs are heard In the beginning of our course and each step of the way, I will listen to your needs, based on which we decide

  • the best combination of resources for you
  • what you need to do next
  • how we can measure it
  • how you can do deliberate practice
  • what finger level changes you have to make
  • what your mindset should be
  • what immediate exercises you need to focus on…

… you get the idea.

For example:

  • If you are a beginner wanting to play carnatic, there are set of resources you can choose.
  • If you have been playing for sometime and want to get better with chords and rhythm choose the right modules and you have your custom made path.
  • Want to get corrections on your film song playing? Send me practice video (will explain how) or use the one on one call or come for our group calls.
  • I am here to help you make sure you get it right, you have clarity

It is not about just giving you some notes and chords and asking you to practice. You are gaining access to me + lifetime knowledge base + options for correction and guidance.

There is an entire science and lifelong learning behind the courses and the teaching.

Design Your Experience

  • Maybe you are just starting to learn the guitar – Indian style film songs or raga songs… carnatic.
  • Maybe you have tried for some time now, but the lack of the right direction has made progress difficult.
  • Maybe you have been trying to learn guitar and quitting for the past few years?

Whatever it be, the need, your dream, your passion is not going to just go away… It will resurface and keep urging you till you see through it.

Now you have the exact resource and teacher, if playing Indian style music that you grew up with, on the guitar fluently and efficiently is your goal.

What is the importance of music familiarity and feedback loop?

Without this you can’t be a musician.

To be a musician it is essential to develop a constant feedback loop between what you play vs how it is meant to sound or how you hear it in your mind.

The producer’s mind, a constant awareness that lets you identify and close the Error Gap. Loss function?

Constant course correction to reach where you really want to be instead of being stranded in a desert full of feelingless musicless notes hit somehow in a disconnected manner.

And in order for practice to be meaningful while developing a feedback loop, you need music that is familiar, or play towards what you are interested in and want to finally play.

The superior nature of extreme detailed modeling

To progress, you need step by step process.
Each step should have optimization and delay reduction techniques,
best practices at a body level,
keen observation to micro details,
corrections for specific phrases and moves so that
your skill will get better and you can transfer your new learned fluency and ability to other songs or chords or rhythms you are playing.

You also need a source that will help you chunk down the steps from where you are to where you want to be. Custom made to the style and to your needs.

My resources are based on direct real life questions and experience from my teaching years. I know the usual questions and roadblocks, which I address in my course videos. That is why, in some of the testimonials you will see the point repeated : that in my videos it is as if I am sitting there in front of you.

I learnt music from performers

People who were (some passed away) and are considered at the top of the game. They wouldn’t take students.

I stayed with them, helped with chores, observed, asked, learnt. At times their family even gave me food… kind of like a Gurukula. I am thankful to them.

Phrasing logic, efficiency, feedback loop, deliberate practice… I got the chance to observe and learn how the masters were giving importance to them and how they were really practicing, and the mindset (for example: they always asked HOW can I play this and never CAN I!).

I started playing guitar when I was 11… over the decades, I have understood and formalized step by step processes that will bring real growth and transformation in students who wish to play Indian style music on the guitar or play rhythm and chords the way we do.

Learn from sources that give you micro details of transformation. Not just someone who tells you you are not playing well enough, but someone who can and will give you the specifics of finger logic and body level change and best play models …

Learn from problem solvers who can give unique solutions to your particular situation based on their own decades of experience and experience that comes from having observed and taught and brought results over years.

Well… as you can see, we are not learning guitar. We are opening up a completely new, vivid, fascinating world full of micro details, efficiency, awareness… fluency.

  • practising the guitar while playing towards what you want to finally play or the kind of music you are most interested in and know very well – this makes sure that we are motivated, practice time is meaningful, that we are moving towards playing what matters to you
  • when you really know the music, you know the error gap between how you are playing and how the music is meant to be – big advantage. even within the physical skill learning aspect, one needs to know the micro details involved in producing a particular sound. we need to model the best play of a very good player at a body level, often. Know what is missing and correct the in between micro parts. Without that level of guidance, our playing will always sound mediocre and amateur. Music is not just about mechanically somehow hitting the right notes, right… there is timing, there is delay reduction, fingering logic, phrasing, understanding and mastery.

Why Indian style specific instruction?

The first thing needed to learn music is learning towards what you really know and want to play finally.

If we grew up with Indian style music, learn directly from an expert with clear proof, who can teach you methods that will help you play your kind of music, fluently and efficiently.

We can’t expect a Burger joint to teach us to prepare South Indian Thali.

The best of western guitar teacher is not going to be able to teach you the mechanics of playing slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs.

What to take care of for the connected sound. How to think of the guitar fretboard specifically to make Indian music playing easier. What is phrasing and fingering in Indian music situation.

With specific methods for Indian style playing growth, we have the needed tools to fill the feedback loop, to make self corrections, all while knowing that we are going in the right direction.

What do you mean by micro details

Let us take the simple case of open chord changes. If a teacher doesn’t show you anything more than chord patterns, they have reduced themselves to a google search.

In our method, chord learning is about transitions:

  • keeping finger close to string
  • minimal movement
  • finger unit movement
  • pivot finger
  • the thumb emphasis

… we look at the micro details that actually result in a masterful playing.

Imagine we want to learn the methods of a very good Cricket player. I am not good at cricket, but if I had to learn, it is not enough to know that the ball hit the bat and it went in a particular direction. I need to see how was his left leg, right leg, which part of the bat hit the ball, how far behind did his elbow go before the swing, where was he looking, the shape of his shoulder… the end of the swing. You get my point.

Want to play barre chords?

  • Start playing open chords
  • start playing open chords with index finger freed up (included in Rhythm CHord Basics section)
  • understand the function of thumb in the three finger structure – it is an engineering problem
  • see which fingers need to move as a group
  • where is the pressure , where is the pivot
  • which songs can you use as a model to practice (You have access to me to discuss all that)
  • slowly transition to using the index finger by playing on a +1 fret (videos explain it to you)
  • Then, within barre chords, which strings have priority sounding correctly – not attempting the complete overwhelming chord in one go.

We see what in between steps can be composed, to make the progress natural, step by step, encouraging and sure.

You see, my job as a teacher is often to chunk down the overwhelming process, to give a plan and process, to stay as a rock for the student, inspiring and helpig move forward in manageable steps.

Grow through the learning heirarchies

For each of the subskills, we have clear detailed paths to follow in order to have desired outcomes. You will not just look and repeat, but you will grow through your learning goals towards self sufficiency, independence, freedom.
