Build Raga from Scale | Step by step from simple notes

Please remember that the below given sheet is a swara sheet and not a tab sheet. The lines in the below given sheet do not mean slides. They are there to indicate rhythm units for the given composition.

Below video shows you how to map the notes on the guitar

Ragas, swaras etc

The Malahari Raga is a derivative of the Raga Mayamalavagowla.

Mayamalavagowla, also know as the double harmonic major (yes, has the G3 in it, is a major) has just two notes different from the Major scale (any major scale, not just C)

Change the 2nd and 6th notes of the C major scale to get the C mayamalavagowla.

C major: C D E F G A B C

C Mayamalavagowla: C Db E F G Ab B C

The C major scale to C mayamalavagowla, ascend descend

Slightly simplified version

Finding C Mayamalavagowla till Playing the Geetham

The below video has the concepts and basic moves explained one more time with more details on some parts of the playing. Learning to play music is about repeating. It is not just about one time information, instead it is about transformation. Therefore I wish to add this additional video, even when some of the content is repeated, in case you find a different angle that makes it clearer for you.

Video about how swaras are variables. If C = Sa then C# = R1 etc. If you haven’t seen this video before, please do so that you will be clear with the concept of starting any note as the Sa and then finding the other notes for Ri Ga etc… in any pitch.
