From notes to playing music.
Knowing what to play is just the beginning. To convert notes to MUSIC, chords to performance, you need underlying musical skills. You need proven practice methods + mistake focused accurate and timely feedback from a trusted teacher.
For Indian guitar, Carnatic music, rhythm, chords, songs and raga improvisation.
Guided learning gives you:
- Access to all Ragacourses courses and roadmaps
- A private WhatsApp learning group
- Regular group guidance and coaching calls
- A place to ask questions when practice becomes unclear
- Optional private calls and personal video correction
The foundation, speed and focus that I have now is wonderful. Signing up for Ragacourses was one of the best decisions I have taken, and I recommend it wholeheartedly to music learners.Krishna Mohan Ellicott City, USA
More lessons do not automatically create fluency.
Many learners already have videos, courses, exercises and songs. Sucked into YouTube whirlpools and content only teaching, at the end, just disconnected playing. The student doubts their talent although the real reason is a lack of sequence, absence of skills based training, project based learning and the much needed musical feedback loop.
You need to know what to practise, why it matters and which work will produce results you can actually hear and use.
No clear sequence
You know many things you could practise, but not what deserves attention now or what should come next.
Repeated restarting
You begin lessons and songs, get stuck, move to something else and repeatedly return to the beginning.
No useful feedback
It is difficult to hear your own timing, technique, phrasing or practice mistakes while you are making them.
Practice stays disconnected
Exercises may improve individual skills without becoming music you can confidently play, remember and use.
It is the missing connection between information, practice, correction and actual music-making.
Learning problems are usually found inside the practice process.
A course can show you the correct notes, rhythm or technique. But the course cannot always see what you are doing, identify the specific obstacle or decide how much to simplify the next step.
The task is too large
The learner tries to play the final version before building the smaller skills that make the final version possible.
The correction comes too late
Small timing, fingering or phrasing problems are repeated until they become part of the playing habit.
Practice loses direction
Without a clear present target, practice becomes a collection of unfinished lessons rather than one developing ability.
A course library supported by direction, feedback and continuity.
Guided Learning combines the structured Ragacourses material with a private group and access to me. You still learn independently, but you are no longer left alone to interpret every difficulty.
A clear path
Use the roadmap that matches your goal instead of moving randomly through unrelated lessons.
Ongoing connection
Use the private WhatsApp group and group calls to ask questions, clarify practice and remain connected to the learning process.
Personal correction
Choose mentorship when you need private calls, individual practice direction and correction based on your own playing.
Learn, practise, receive feedback and adjust.
The process stays simple. We use the courses as the foundation and add guidance focusing on ERROR-ORIENTED Deliberate Practice
Choose a direction
Start with the roadmap, course or musical goal that fits your current level.
Reduce the task
Turn the larger song or skill into a small, playable and recognisable result.
Practise and connect
Build the notes, rhythm and movements separately, then connect them into music.
Correct and continue
Use questions, calls or video feedback to identify the next useful change.
I teach the learning process, not only the final notes.
I started performing Indian-style guitar on stage when I was eleven. My teaching is shaped by practical musicianship: learning what is necessary to play raga and film songs like it is sung, accompany music with chords and rhythm, improvise and perform, rather than collecting exercises without a clear result.
Over years of learning, performing and teaching, , I chunk the music into the correct size, identify the skill underneath the difficulty and help the learner build a version they can actually play.
My interest in result-oriented learning also shaped how I prepared independently for the IIT entrance examination, achieving AIR 716 in 1998 from a small town through focused practice and past papers.

You do not need to become an advanced musician before making music.
A song or raga can be reduced to the version that fits your present ability. You first create the minimum recognisable result. Then you improve its timing, expression, ornamentation and complexity.
This allows performance and skill development to happen together. You are not waiting indefinitely to become “ready.”
- Begin with the version you can play now.
- Separate difficult movements before combining them.
- Correct the most important problem instead of everything at once.
- Use each song to reach the next level of skill.
- Build continuity through small completed results.

Detailed Review From a Student
Yes, I found it immensely helpful. You gave specific feedback to each person who posted videos, along with corrections that helped us make real progress. You also suggested relevant materials and videos based on the discussions we had during the group calls.
It definitely helped me move closer to my goals. For example, when we started the one-month course, you asked us to choose only two songs and focus strictly on them. I chose Mahaganapathim and was not sure I would be able to complete it because of the difficult slides towards the end. With the specific feedback I received, I was able to complete the song.
The group calls were useful to some extent, although I felt we did not use them to their full potential. Since you had already given each person detailed feedback in the group chat, I personally found the WhatsApp feedback more useful than the calls.
Many of the questions raised during the calls were also covered in the course videos we already had access to. However, the calls were useful when discussing difficult songs or techniques. For example, you explained a little about the chord melody approach for Roja and Mahaganapathim. That helped me understand how you approach a specific song, although I am not sure how relevant it was for everyone else in the group.
Yes, absolutely. There was enough course content, practice material, and useful guidance. The fundamentals were explained clearly and reinforced throughout the lessons.
There were also specific videos dealing with advanced techniques such as long or difficult slides, unusual rhythms, and other challenges.
Yes, definitely. The quality of the content is top-notch.
For example, in the Mahaganapathim course, you clearly explained the complete approach: starting with the scale, moving to the raga notes, and then understanding the specific details needed to play the raga properly.
Throughout the lessons, you also explained common mistakes, alternative ways of playing, and important technical details. I was able to apply many of these techniques and tips to other songs I learnt outside the course as well.
