MuseScore: Insert a Section Title Inside a Bigger Project
Works in MuseScore 3 & 4. Use this when your score has multiple parts (e.g., Alap, Chorus, Part B) within the same file.
🎵 Option 1: Section Break + New Title (recommended)
- Go to the measure where the new section begins.
-
Insert a Section Break:
- Select the last measure of the previous section.
- MuseScore 3: Add → Text → Section Break
- MuseScore 4: Properties Panel → Breaks & Spacers → Section Break → Add to selected measure
-
Add the section title:
- Click the first measure of the new section.
- Add → Text → Title (shortcut:
Ctrl+Shift+T/Cmd+Shift+T) - Type your title (e.g., Part II — The Journey).
- Adjust formatting (optional): Use the right-hand Properties panel to change font size, alignment, and style.
Tip: A Section Break can reset measure numbers and instrument labels—handy for multi-movement scores.
🎶 Option 2: Use Subtitle / System Text (no renumbering)
- Click where you want the label.
- Add → Text → Staff Text or System Text.
- Type the section name (e.g., Bridge, Interlude).
- In Properties → Text Style, increase size/bold (or create a “Section Title” style).
⚙️ Bonus: Save a Custom “Section Title” Style
- Format one title the way you like.
- Format → Style → Text Styles → New.
- Name it Section Title and reuse it across the score.
